Dr Thahiratul Asma' Binti Zakaria Disease Control Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia

Dr. Thahirahtul Asma' is a medical doctor who graduated from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She then pursued a career in public health and became a public health specialist with a focus on environmental health. Her previous work reflects a strong commitment to protecting communities from the health effects of environmental related issues. Dr. Asma has been actively involved in environmental health since 2012, with a particular emphasis on the associations between environmental change and human health. She is a key figure at the Malaysian Ministry of Health in shaping and coordinating national climate change and health plans. Her devotion and commitment to addressing the health impacts of climate change led to her selection as Malaysia's National Focal Point for the Alliance for Transformative Action on Climate and Health (ATACH) in August 2025. Currently , she serves as the Deputy Director of Noncommunicable Disease at the Disease Control Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia, where she leads national strategies to prevent and control NCDs. She also oversees occupational health issues among healthcare workers, ensuring their safety, well-being, and protection across the health system.
