Datuk Dr Mahathar Bin Abd Wahab Ministry of Health Malaysia

YBhg Datuk Dr Mahathar Abd Wahab is the Director-General of Health Malaysia, appointed on 29 May 2025, and a Senior Consultant Emergency Physician. With almost 30 years of service in Malaysia’s public health system since 1 October 1996, he has built a distinguished career in emergency medicine, trauma care, critical care, medical law, and point-of-care ultrasound. A graduate of the University of St Andrews and the University of Manchester, he holds a Master of Medicine in Emergency Medicine from Universiti Sains Malaysia and completed the Southeast Asia Healthcare Leadership Program at Harvard Medical School. His leadership has shaped national emergency and trauma services through policy development, clinical innovation, service redesign, research, and specialist training. He also holds key national and international roles, reflecting his commitment to strengthening healthcare governance, patient safety, and resilient health systems.
