Dr Nurashikin Binti Ibrahim National Centre of Excellence for Mental Health, (NCEMH), Ministry of Health Malaysia

Dr. Nurashikin Ibrahim, a medical doctor and Consultant Public Health Physician has been working in the Ministry of Health, Malaysia for past 30 years. She received her undergraduate and postgraduate training from University of Malaya in 1994 and 2004, respectively. Her keen interest in mental health has resulted in her involvement in the mental health field for the past 20 years with extensive experience in the mental health field from her education to her work nature. She now holds the post as the Director of the National Centre of Excellence for Mental Health, Public Health Programme, Ministry of Health. Her areas of expertise/knowledge are in Mental Health Promotion Mental Health Services and Psychosocial Support Disaster and Suicide Prevention upon which she received training in Psychosocial Response to Disaster from Hyogo Institute of Traumatic Stress, (HITS) Japan as well as training in Mental Health Promotion & Mental Illness Prevention from Hunter Institute of Mental Health, Australia and Suicide Prevention from AISRAP, Australia. She is also responsible as Head Coordinator of the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services of Ministry of Health in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia and has been involved in many past crisis situations including the unprecedented incident of air tragedy MH370 and MH17 in 2014, Humanitarian Mission for the Rohingya’s in 2017 and recent massive flood tragedy in 2021. She is also actively involved in providing training and mentoring on the areas of mental health as well. Dr. Nurashikin Ibrahim's promotion to Director of the National Centre of Excellence for Mental Health is a significant achievement that highlights her dedication and expertise in public health. Her career path, marked by continuous learning and impactful contributions, serves as an inspiration to many in the field. Under her leadership, NCEMH is poised to make even greater strides in advancing mental health agenda in Malaysia
